Iatrophobia, the fear of doctors, is a real condition and has touched my life inspiring my artwork. My grandmother is the reason I decided to do my concentration on iatrophobia because she is a victim of it also. While in the hospital she had been presumed dead and put into a body bag. The only problem was…she was still alive and aware of what was going on around her. After that life-changing incident my grandmother has not been the same. The effect it has had on her and our family inspired my work. In my concentration I am telling a story of a young girl who has a fear of doctors and I explained through pictures why she has this fear. Her grandfather’s death was one of the main aspects that caused it. I chose to use charcoal because I felt that it would be the best medium to help me express grief and I kept it in black and white to show that it was a memory of the little girl.
